Business intelligence, critical trend direction as well as networking cocktail mixers

DALLAS – September 23, 2009 – Market Center Management Company (MCMC), the management company of leading wholesale trade centers and trade events around the world, and GlobalTex: LA International Textile & Sourcing Fair™ today announced its schedule of seminars and special events for GlobalTex. The show will be held October 13-15, 2009 at the Los Angeles Convention Center (LACC). GlobalTex is endorsed by the Textile Association of Los Angeles (TALA) and the California Fashion Association (CFA).

“During the second edition of GlobalTex attendees will enjoy an even wider array of educational and networking opportunities,” said Cindy Morris, COO, MCMC. “Only GlobalTex offers Trend Labs, including directional displays and seminars presented by industry experts discussing relevant business insights. The show truly helps translate trends into business.”

Educational opportunities and special events for GlobalTex attendees will be held in the Seminar Suite conveniently located on the show floor in South Hall, Hall G. Below are details:

Mudpie CEO and trend specialist Fiona Jenvey will conduct several seminars during GlobalTex on Autumn/Winter 2010 trends and global fashion. The presentation will include three trends of inspirational garments, prints, graphics and color. Jenvey’s seminars include Women’s Trend Focus on Tuesday, October 13 at 9:30 a.m.; Children’s Trend Focus on Wednesday, October 14 at 11 a.m.; and Denim Trend Focus also on Wednesday at 2 p.m. In addition to Jenvey’s seminars, Mudpie West Coast agent, Chris Brandt of The Patricia Brandt Company, will present a Men’s Trend Focus on Thursday, October 15 at 10:30 a.m.

Peri O’Connor, founder of PERISCOPE, and Stephane Vernet, president of Creations Robert Vernet, will present Print Direction for Autumn/Winter 2010 on Tuesday, October 13 at 2 p.m. They will discuss the hot new prints and art direction for the upcoming seasons. Attendees will learn about the popular colors and patterns that will be hits for the selling season.

Benjamin Moore director of future trends and design Doty Horn will present a seminar on Color Pulse 2011 on Wednesday, October 14 at 9:30 a.m. Horn will discuss the universal color trends and how these trends translate to all industries. Attendees will be some of the first to see the newest colors for 2011, launched in September 2009.

Tuesday, October 13

Panel Discussion: Fashion Under Stress: How Product Development Needs to Adjust; presented by Kathy Swantko, president and founder of FabricLink Network at 11 a.m. – Textile advocate and educator Swantko will moderate a panel of experts in fiber/yarn, fabric, manufacturing and retail sectors discussing the opportunities that product development leaders are facing, how it has impacted the production cycle, fashion industry and its suppliers, and more cost effective ways to produce merchandise and improve the bottom line. Presented by FabricLink Network.

Seminar: The Importance of Choosing the Right Color and Color Combinations for Autumn/Winter 2010; presented by Fran and Arnold Sude of Design Options, the West Coast Perspective at 12:30 p.m. – The Sudes will present Autumn/Winter 2010 color and trend direction for all markets in both apparel and home. They will emphasize the importance of stepping out of the box and using inspiration from various divisions of color to create winning palettes. The environment of the body has become one with the environment of the home. A free season of color will be given away to a lucky attendee.

Panel Discussion and Networking Cocktail Mixer: How Fast Turn Demands are Changing the Apparel and Textile Industry; presented and moderated by Frances Harder, president and founder of Fashion Business, Inc. at 3:30 p.m. – The panel will discuss how the textile and clothing industry are reacting to the new demands from the retailer for rapid response, what are the new buying habits of retailers and end consumers and how they are changing the way they do business, as well as how this effects California fashion and the global market as far as importing and exporting. Topics covered will consist of: logistics and speed to market, product development, production and the financial impact. The panel will include a group of experts in International finance, logistics, importing and exporting, production and a retailer.

Wednesday, October 14

Seminar: My Suit is Made of What??!! from Plastic to Fantastic!; presented by Teijin and INFOSYS Technologies at 12:30 p.m. – Attendees will learn how Teijin is supplying Sears with men’s suits spun from plastic bottles and how INFOSYS Technologies’ new Green PLM program will take companies like Teijin through green product development, production and distribution in a cost effective and renewable manner within the supply chain. The panel will consist of Moses Cohen, sales, marketing and project manager of the Teijin USA DIVISION; Takeshi Nakano, general manager of Teijin USA DIVISION; and Hardik Kansupada, product innovation principal of INFOSYS Technologies. The panel will be moderated by Rosemarie Ojalvo, sales manager for GlobalTex.

Panel Discussion and Networking Cocktail Mixer: Design Copyright – Protection or License to Steal?; presented and moderated by Ilse Metchek, president of California Fashion Association at 3:30 p.m. – The panel will discuss the Textile Copyright law and how it is presently in use as well as the pending Design Piracy Act and its ramifications. In addition, the panel will discuss several case studies past and present and cover the major issues and why this is costing the textile, apparel and retail industries millions of dollars. The panel will consist of manufacturers, textile executives and lawyers that are well versed on the cases.

Thursday, October 15

Seminar: French Fabrics for Distinctive Collections; presented by Agnès Elisabelar, export manager of Espace Textile at 12:30 p.m. – Attendees will learn about key figures in the Textile Industry in France, the benefits of using French fabrics, how to work with French vendors, and key trend key directions in fabrics for Autumn/Winter 2010.
